Our process

Initial Appointment

Your initial occupational therapy assessment is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of your individual strengths, challenges, goals, and support needs. This assessment is completed in two parts to ensure sufficient time for both the consultation and clinical planning.

Initial Consultation
The first appointment is a 60-minute consultation with the client or, where appropriate, a parent, family member, caregiver, or support person. During this session, your occupational therapist will gather relevant background information, discuss your current concerns, explore your goals, and gain an understanding of your daily activities, routines, and participation in meaningful occupations. Together, you will identify priorities and begin developing an individualised therapy plan tailored to your unique needs.

Clinical Planning & Consultation
Following the consultation, your occupational therapist will complete approximately 30 minutes of clinical work outside of the appointment. This may include reviewing and interpreting assessment findings, developing therapy goals, preparing an individualised intervention plan, completing clinical documentation, and communicating with other members of your support team or healthcare providers (with your consent). If additional information is required, your occupational therapist may also contact you or your nominated support person before your next appointment.

This assessment process allows your occupational therapist to develop a personalised, evidence-informed therapy plan that reflects your goals, circumstances, and individual needs across all stages of life.

Ongoing Occupational Therapy

Ongoing therapy is tailored to each person and their developed therapy plan. Recommendations are based on your goals, functional needs, and desired outcomes. The frequency of appointments will vary depending on your circumstances and may be adjusted as your needs change over time.

Standard therapy appointments include 50 minutes of direct therapy and 10 minutes allocated to clinical documentation. This documentation time allows your therapist to accurately record session outcomes, monitor your progress, update treatment plans when required, and prepare for future appointments.

With your consent, your occupational therapist may also communicate and collaborate with family members, carers, educators, employers, support coordinators, healthcare providers, and other members of your support network to ensure coordinated, person centred care. Education, practical strategies, and resources may also be provided to support you in achieving your therapy goals outside of therapy sessions.

Your occupational therapist may provide a range of clinical and standardised assessments to evaluate functional abilities, identify strengths and areas of need, and inform recommendations, intervention planning, and reporting.
